A red geranium - a present from myself. |
A beautiful waxed table cloth and wooden butter knives from Sweden |
An arum lily to remind me of the St Helena countryside where they grow like weeds |
Eating: Nothing until the next meal. I have declared it to be Snack - Free September in a bid to curb my constant snacking while I cook dinner each night.
Drinking: A lot of tea today. A sign of a long and bitty to-do list.
Wearing: A purple jumper dress purchased on our South African holiday. It is the first really driech day of Autumn and although it probably is not actually very cold, I am feeling it today.
Wanting: Tall Girl to let me in. She is like a bear with a sore head at the moment despite professing to love being back in England. Something is up, I just don't know what yet.
Thinking: About my friends in St Helena. I think it is the weather but I am feeling the distance today. Two of them sent me these lovely presents during their recent holidays in Europe.
Dreaming: About playing with my sewing machine when it finally arrives (and I have unpacked and put away the contents of 70 boxes in a focused and disciplined way).
I remember my two coming home from school dressed in all manner of ways after PE. The best was the hairstyles Eleanor used to give herself at school, often her fringe had been put in a bobble. I had to ask her teacher to keep an eye on what her hair was like on photograph day.
ReplyDeletetall girl and her friends like to experiment with their hair at the moment with varying success...
DeleteTakes time to settle back into the groove

Patience is not my strongest virtue!
DeleteGood luck with your snack free September. I've started stoptober or whatever it is called early so no more wine for me!
ReplyDeleteI thought stoptober was smoking - shows how much attention I pay! good luck with it.
DeleteI saw your comment on Gilly makes, and popped over to visit you ...... we recently bought a holiday flat and Berwick ...... and when I read on down to your previous post and saw the photo of you view - well, we are practically neighbours! We are just along the road in Mill Wharf in Dock Road- we love it there.
ReplyDeleteI know what you are going through settling back in - we lived in Indinesia for 3 years, and it took a while to unpack all the boxes and fit everything in.
Regards, Anne
ps - fingers firmly crossed for a NO vote!!
Welcome back. I can only imagine how difficult it must be settling back here, especially for your children. Hope your eldest is able to chat soon.
ReplyDeleteSay hello to Vanessa please and send her my love. I think of her often, although I don't know how to say hello to her these days now she doesn't blog.
