New plans for a New Year

I think it is fair to say that I didn't really enjoy December. There were lovely moments in there, but as a whole, it sucked. All three Smalls were really very poorly, having time off school, and two of them ending up on antibiotics once I cracked and took them to the doc's. I was pretty poorly too, especially over Christmas and it was quite a relief to be doing Christmas somewhere else so my responsibilities were minimal.

But it is over! The Smalls are well and very much ready for school tomorrow, I am almost well and very very much ready for a return to routine. A new improved and more purposeful routine it will be too. I am going to counter those winter blues, which are definitely bugging me, with fresh air, exercise and fun, maybe even all at the same time!

And I am embarking on an exciting project. I hope to improve my dressmaking skills and start making lots lots more of my own clothes.

Santa brought me this lovely lady. She clearly needs a name but I haven't found the right one yet. She also needs me to twiddle those dials and fess up to the fact that right now she and I are not exactly the same shape...

Pretty isn't she?

I was also given this book so I have lots of patterns to play with. I missed both series of the programme because we were away, but if there is a third series I will be very interested to see what it is all about.

Just before the dreaded December began I bought myself these in the hopes that they will help me to make clothes that actually fit me. Not only am I not the same shape as my new friend, but I am not the same shape as any pattern would like me to be.

My last stitcherly present came in here. It is not seeds at all (although I think I will have fun filling it with seeds for the spring) but a little cheque to pay for a dressmaking course that I have enrolled myself in. Ten Wednesday mornings of learning the right way of doing things rather than making it up as I go along. I am very excited.  I think there will be quite a lot of homework too. Hurrah!

So tomorrow morning I plan to try out the Aquafit at the local pool then tidy my sewing room which is an absolute midden. As you know it is tiny and that makes the mess all the worse. The table is so full of stuff you can hardly see my poor machine and the floor is so full of stuff that I can neither open or shut the door, nor walk the step and a half to the table.

Ooo I do like a plan!

xx

  1. I think you should call your new friend Rosie!
I would love one of those too, but alas my body shape is nothing like that!

    1. Actually, they don't make manikins that will alter to be my body shape but this is the closest I am going to get. Once I have twiddled those dials that is...

  3. How exciting. I'm no sewer but I loved the Sewing Bee, so inspiring. Eleanor's got a sewing machine so I'm going to have a go with it this year, I'll need her to show me how to work it first though.

  4. I wish I was into sewing. Alas I'm not very good. I do have a machine but would love someone to show me how to do things properly!

  6. Happy new year, and good to read that you're all over the dreaded lurgy now and raring to go. Yay for learning to sew for you! :-)
I'm so enjoying making things I can actually wear, and it's fun to see things take shape. Enjoy your course and look forward to hearing all about it. Hugs xx

  7. Hope your aqua fit class went better than mine. I got there at 7:45 am for my 8 am class to find an empty parking lot and a power outage.....
