Lost my way

[Edit: I posted this a few minutes ago, then reread it and realised what I whinge-bag I sound. Also I forgot the whole point of this post which was to welcome all my lovely new followers who come by from Grow Your Blog. Great welcome eh, a whingey moany post! BUT but but, I feel much better for my whinge so I am going to be true to myself and leave it up. Mostly this is my shiny-happy place and I am sure normal service will resume shortly.]

Arg, I am having trouble with my blogging voice. In fact I think I have generally lost my way in many things at the moment.

much loved but falling apart blouse, deconstructed

I am looking for it, my way that is, in all the usual places - making stuff, tidying up, spending time with people who are good for me, planning fun things, cooking nice food.

paper pattern made from the pieces

But it is an elusive creature. I am spending as much time unpicking as stitching, photos don't look the way I want them too, my clothes feel awkward and my food is tasteless.

cut out pieces

I feel like I am going through the motions but without properly engaging in anything.

working out what order to sew them together

So, I think I am going to have to ramp up my way-hunt.

gathers worry me

Anyone else got any ideas where I should look?

a ta da that I ought to be rather pleased with

xx

  1. Hi Eleanor!

I think we all can relate to losing our blogging voice. :) Sometimes nothing sounds right or worse my mind is a total blank. :) I'm one of your new followers back for a second visit. Don't you worry i'll bet your voice will be back before you know it! Hugs! deb

  2. We all misplace our mojo sometimes. When I lose mine I try to work on something completely different to my usual work but still creative. If it's writing the blog that isn't working try try writing poetry or a short story. If it's sewing try going crazy with layering and embroidery to make a piece of art instead of something practical for example. When I lose my mojo big time I get out grown up colouring books with intricate designs and sit and colour in with colouring pencils. It keeps the creative juices flowing without the frustration of knowing your work needs to be 'just so'.

  3. I produce a random hate the world or manic rant on average once a week . My theory is that thats how you spot the humans and not just the viral marketeers and the i will manipulate my personality so that everybody loves me blogs...lol

  4. It's not just you, I can assure you. This week has been much like that for me, wandering aimlessly from one job to another. If my case I blame the constant rain and dull grey skies.
Your new top is lovely, it makes me think of summer just looking at it!

    1. Thanks. I was not too sure when I finished it but it is seersucker and had been ironed to within an inch of it's life in the sewing process. Washed and un-ironed it feels a lot more comfortable!

  5. Not to worry, Eleanor, sometimes the Muse, like all of us, needs a little vacation (or goes AWOL, or hides in the closet and sucks her thumb, or catches a sniffle, or wants a new toy, etc., etc.) In short, she is best left to her pout while you go about your business :)

I agree with Mokki's comment, an unexpected change is required to shock your creativity awake! Reward yourself with a new, unrelated-to-your-usual small project. Before very long Ms. Muse will be sniffing about, wondering why you seem so content without her, and wanting to engage you. But remain aloof and casual so as not to alarm her (fickle creature). Soon your "blah" will be a vague memory :)

  6. It's a phase and will pass like many other......in the meantime take a mini vacation from blogging if you will. Cause sometimes when you step back and look at things, you see the bigger picture and a clearer one too:)

  7. Oh I enjoy a good moan at times, then I usually have a bit giggle at myself, deep breath in and out and then just carry on! I must say though I do like your top, is that seersucker fabric? The sleeves do look complicated but a lovely effect has been achieved! :-)x

    1. Yes, seersucker. Looks much better now it is comfortably rumpled. The ironing required to sew it had squished all the lovely lumps and bumps.

  8. Oh I am so glad you shared this - so glad it's not just me who feels this way.

I agree with all the above - do something out of the ordinary, explore
a new space, treat yourself, try something totally different.

  9. Could it be depression? Do the things you're doing work or do you still feel down?

    1. Hi Sarah, It most certainly is. I loved it and wore it so much the fabric wore away completely. I love my new one too though. xx

  11. Your shirt looks lovely!:-) I fantasize about sewing clothes but I just don't seem to be able to do it :-) I think I'll have to stick to knitting :-)

It can be annoying when you go throw creative slumps - which includes blogging, as I see it as a creative outlet. I find relaxing and letting it all go helps :-)
